With lots of reports of Marlin coming in over the summer its easy to forget the gladiator of the sea that lurks down deep below the surface, the ultimate in gamefishing… the broadbill swordfish.
Daytime dropping for swords is becoming more and more popular and now is the time to head out for your chance to catch the fish of a lifetime. We were excited to hear the first NZ reported recreational sword of the year was caught by a SwordPro supporter using SwordPro Rigs and Landing Gear.
February saw Luke Davey of SwordPro heading across the ditch to Australia to talk swords and share his deep dropping techniques and advice at the Mitcham Angling Club and Victorian Game Fishing Club with a great response from the guys attending – a couple of great nights had by all. Keeping to form the day after he got back saw him land a 215kg sword.
Luke caught his first sword of the season in back in January and his hook up rate is being proven once again this season, seeing him landing or releasing another five in total, with many more months of the season left. Team members Roy and Ethan have also been out there slaying it using their SwordPro Gear. This success comes down to the rigs we are using and technique… combine the two and you’ll be well on your way to catching a sword. Check out the blog the see why changing to circle hooks will catch you more fish… while your there read up on Luke’s expert advice on daytime deep dropping for swords.
Lots of new ideas coming to SwordPro over the next few months so watch this space!
